The Bank of Mongolia issued a new family of banknotes, which was introduced into circulation during 1993-94. The banknote family consists of eleven denominators, which are illustrated in the next pages. The design of the notes features an engraved portrait of Chingis Khan on the 500, 1000, 5000, 10000 and 20000 Togrog banknotes, and of D.Sukhbaatar, commander in Chief and leader of the People's Revolution in 1921, on the lower denominations. On the reverse side of the notes denominations feature a typical Mongolian landscape with the famous Mongolian horses. Common to all the design is Soyombo symbol, the talisman at the left of watermark area and the peace-staff which runs behind the script on the left of the note.As the lowest denomination, the one Togrog note has a unique design, with a stylised lion on the front and the Soyombo symbol as main feature on the back of the note. The latest security features have been incorporated into design of the banknotes to protect them against traditional and modern counterfeiting methods. The design of the new banknote issue was produced in co-operation between the Bank of Mongolia and Tomas De La company.
