The Prosecutor’s Office is an independent authority that acts on behalf of the State with the purpose of ensuring the uniform implementation of the criminal legislation and participates in the administration of justice within the territory of Mongolia. According to Art.56 of the Constitution of Mongolia prosecutors supervise over the inquiry, investigation of criminal cases and execution of punishment and participate in court proceedings on behalf of the State.

The prosecutors represent the public prosecution in criminal proceedings and represent public institutions in civil hearings upon request with the aim of protecting the State interests. The Prosecutor General and prosecutors specifically assigned by the Prosecutor General are authorized to supervise undercover activities of the police and intelligence agencies.

Structure

The Prosecutors’ Office consists of the State General Prosecutor’s Office and the Aimag (21), Capital city, Transport Prosecutors’ Offices and Inter-soums (8) and District Prosecutors’ Offices (8).
