Bayan-Khongor aimag is located in South-Western part of our country, and occupies high plateau of the South Khangai mountains, East-South mountains of Gobi-Altai range, the middle part of depression of the great lakes of western Mongolia, and main part of Trans-Altai desert. Therefore, this aimag called as "Area of the three zones". This aimag borders on certain places with the People¡¯s Republic of China. The average latitude of the Bayankhongor aimag is about of 750-4000 meters above sea level. Zeeren, Nomchi, Tsenkher Gobi deserts are lowest places (750-960m above sea-level) and highest point is Ikhe Bogda Uul. The elevation of this beautiful mountain of the Mongol Altai range is 3957 meters above sea level. This area combines all natural colours, majesty and beauty, and is rich in all-kind of the natural resources. Bayankhongor aimag is rich in springs. The most famous spring-rest house is the Shargaljuut hot spring. This is famous over the nation. The temperature is about +45C-+95C. There are over 100 hot springs and gushings. The Orog /140sq.km/ and Buuntsagaan /252 sq.km/ are the biggest lakes in the aimag. There are many medical herbs such as cynomorium, agriophyllium, saussurea involucrata, sophora, rooseroot, sphallerocarpus gracilies in the Bayankhongor aimag. This area is rich in marmot, fox, corsa, badger, lynx, wild sheep, ibex, white antilope, black tailed antilope. The rarest animals are wild ass, wild camel, wild horse, bulrush boar and gobi bear. They live in the Gobi. The main sector of economy is agriculture. Total livestock reaches 1.323 thousand heads with 381.6 thousand sheep, 764.2 thousand goats.
