This aimag borders on the north with Russian Federation. The high mountains as Burenkhaan, Khordil saridag, Erchim range, Tagna, Soyon elevate up to 3500 meters above sea level. There are beautiful passes such as Jigleg, Jar, Toom and Uli. Tagnuur, Shiluust, Uran dush, Delgerkhan are highest mountains. The foreign tourists call the Khubsugul aimag as "Mongolian Switzerland". There are many rivers such as Ider, Tes, Delger, Selenge. The Khubsugul lake is the deepest in the Asia. Erkhel, Achmag, Tsengel, Sangiin dalai are other lakes. There are 3800 cubic meters of wood per capita of aimag. So this aimag is taking first place in Mongolia by its forest resources. The soil of this area is grey and black soil is in the valleys. The annual precipitation is 300-400 mm and more. This means this area is most humid in the Mongolia. The Khubsugul aimag is rich in natural resourses of phosphorite, coal, nephrite, graphite, and precious stones including ruck crystal, green jade and chalcedony. Asbestos, fluorspa and mica exist in many places. The Khubsugul area is rich in medical herbs, such as peony, liquorice, astragalus, wild rose, saussurea involucrata, hawthorn, valerian, thyme, thermopsis. There are brown bears, foxex, wolves, squirrels, badgers, ermines, wolverines, muskrates, martens, steppe polecats, and protected species, such as deer, roe deer, elk, wild sheep, ibex, musk deer, sable, beaver and otter. Total livestock is 2.295 thousand heads, and it also takes 1st place with 238 thous. heads of cow. Khuvsgul aimag, located in the northern part of Mongolia with its fresh and deep lake of Khuvsgul and Khoridol Saridag mountain range, isolated and deep forests and peculiar customs of many ethnics is the main area of home and foreign tourism in Mongolia.
