Sukhbaatar aimag situates in the eastern part of the country. It is hillous and steppe. The average altitude is 1000-1200 meters above sea level for the most of the territory. The highest mountains are Shiliin Bogda (1.777 m) and Munkh Khan (1.600 m). The East depression stretches over the territory of Dornod steppe on the Southward of Baruun-Urt from the east-north to the west-south. The basalt covering¡¯s of the dead volcanos occupies about 10.000 sq.km in the east-south part of the Sukhbaatar aimag. There are 220 dead volcanos, such as Shiliin Bogda, Zotolkhan, Altan ovoo, Ayabadar, Asgat, Senjitiin Undur, Dosh, Ganga, Tsagaan ovoo and Nart. Almost 20 springs are in the aimag, such as Dalai bulag, Arnuur, Talbulag, Dashin and Ereen tolgoi. There are lakes, such as Ganga nuur, Duut, Dosh. The north and north-western part of the territory is a brown soil, and the eastern part is pale, brown soil. The south part of the territory is sand deserts, such as Moltsog sand dunes (248 sq.km), Ongon sand (128 sq.km), and Suuj sand. The Southward edge of the territory is semi-desert, other major part of the territory is the steppe. This aimag is rich in white antilopes. They look like yellow wave. The horn of the male antilope in the aimag won golden medal of the Turin International Hunting exhibition, and its length was 32,5 cm. There are foxes. corsas, wolves, marmots and wild cats. It is very interesting that deer are settled in the steppe. The total livestock reached 1,580 thousand heads.
