There are many high mountains clad in eternal snow, such as Khan-khukhii, Togtokh shil of the continuation of the Khangai mountain range, and Kharkhiraa, Turgen, Tsagaan Shuvuut, Yol yamaat, Zest basin of the Altai mountain range. The highest point is Kharkhiraa peak, its altitude is 4000 meters above sea level. There are natural resources of ferro-metal ore, copper ore, lime-stone, asbestos, coal, ochre, rock-salt, marble, and precious and coloured stones such as pomegranate, rock-crystal, mass agate. This is the territory of the extreme hot or cold climate. The annual average precipitation is 200 mm and about 300-400 mm in some areas. There are many big and small lakes such as Khyargas, Khar Us, Achit, Uureg and Uvs is the largest lake of Mongolia and its territory is 3350 sq.km. There are Tes, Khovd, Zavkhan,, Bukhmurun big rivers. The brown, and black brown mountain soil are in the most part of the territory, and saline soil are along the lake basin. The Buurug sand is the biggest sand dune of Mongolia which situates behind the Khankhukhei mountain. It occupied 4000 sq.km of the territory. There are wild cherry, cliff talus, black current, cowberry, strawberry, northern billberry, nitraria. Nitraria grow along the beaches Khyras lakes, species of strawberry are in the sides of Tes river, and cynomorium, agriophyllium grow in the Zuungobi, Zavkhan somons. The antilope, black tailed antilope live in the meadows of Khyrgas, Kharkhiraa, Uvs lakes, deer, boars, wild sheep, ibexes, snow leopards, martens, wolborines live in the Khankhukhii, Kharkhiraa, Turgen mountains. Marmots, badgers, foxes, wolves live in some mountains and valleys. This aimag is rich in historical and cultural sights, such as stone figures, various types of rock drawings, and there are also some impressions of the ancient sea-fauna and flora on the rocks of the Yamaat peak at 3000 meters above sea level. As of 1st January, 2005, total livestock was 1.948 thousand heads.
